'Asian Studies in Focus' Seminar Series - Seminar # 1
Dr Ian Woolford – Lecturer in Hindi, Department of Languages and Cultures, La Trobe University
In English it is now customary to make modifications to pronouns and other adjustments to accommodate the diversity of gender expressions in the world. But what about a gendered language such as Hindi? Like any language, Hindi is capable of describing and celebrating the diversity of gender expression in India and in the world. This talk considers why scholars and teachers of Hindi should pay attention to how Hindi can accommodate genderqueer identities.
