Plant Diversity and Ecology - Natimuk

Taken as part of BOT2PDE (15 credit points)

Field trip dates: Late September, Monday to Friday. Dates TBC at start of Semester 2.

Field trip cost: Accommodation will be camping at approx. $15 per night. Students provide own transport, camping gear and food.

What you'll learn

Field Botany and Plant Ecology are field-based disciplines and the best way to develop your skills is on an extended field course where you will be introduced to the vegetation and soils of the botanically diverse Natimuk area. Spring is wildflower time in western Victoria, so it's a chance to apply your lecture and practical learning to the 'real world'.

You will learn the essentials of field botany, plant ecology and basic soil science, before applying your knowledge to a group-based research project. Research projects are undertaken every year at a new, and previously unsurveyed, site so you will also be contributing to knowledge that will impact conservation decisions in the important remnant ecosystems of the Wimmera.

Enrolment

Students enrolled in BOT2PDE must undertake the field trip as an essential part of the subject.
