Issues in Conservation - Wilsons Promontory National Park, Victoria

Taken as part of WCB2IC (15 credit points)

Field trip dates: Late February, Sunday to Friday of the last week before first semester starts

Field trip cost: Accommodation will be camping at approx. $10.00-$15.00 per night, depending on the number of students sharing a site. Students provide own transport, camping gear and food.

What you'll learn

You will undertake a series of research projects directly related to management approaches for  Wilsons Promontory National Park, and some of the threatened species that occur there. Projects span forest, heathland and coastal habitats. The field course will introduce students to scientific aspects of conservation biology such as experimental design, and some of the social aspects such as balancing human interests with park management.

An important aspect of this course is to expose students a diversity of species of flora and fauna, and challenging them to think about how native species respond to both landscape features and changes in habitat through factors such as grazing and fire.

Enrolment

Students enrolled in WCB2IC must undertake the field trip as an essential part of the subject.
This subject has a cap of 40 students, first preference is given to SBS001 degree students.
