Automatic theatre spotlight operators
Followspot operators must endure aching shoulders and arms, as well as burns from the intense heat followspots gives off. The aim of this project was to remove the human operator from this labour intensive operation and replace them with an automated system that will locate, as well as track an individual’s movements around a stage.
The project implements sensors around the stage and communicates with a device worn by the aforementioned individual on stage and another off stage device what will calculate the coordinates of the person by means of triangulation.
This thesis will cover the work that was carried out throughout the year including design decisions and both hardware and software implementations. This project was designed to target the lower end of the market between the professionals and the low-budget non-specialists.
