Rubrics
The aim of a rubric is to provide a clear outline of the learning intentions of an assessment task as well as defining the different levels of comprehension and understanding.
They are a key way to build consistent understandings of assessment quality and standards for you, your teaching team and your students.
Designing rubrics
When designing rubrics, you should:
- ensure assessment criteria align with the Subject Intended Learning Outcomes (SILOs) and specific task requirements
- assign appropriate weightings for criteria
- write meaningful standard descriptions which make clear distinctions between levels of achievement or performance
