Turnitin is a web-based text-matching software which can be used by students to submit drafts of their work for revision and to check for correct referencing and citing of quotations. It may also be used to detect plagiarism (copying) by matching blocks of text to published works including electronic journals and periodical abstracts and books, internet pages and other student essays submitted to Turnitin. La Trobe University recommends that Turnitin is used as an educative tool which students can use to check their work for correct referencing.
