The languages of Minahasa: description, documentation, and support

Anthony Jukes learning directional gestures2011-2015

This project aims to document and describe several of the endangered languages of Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Most of the languages of this area (one of the few majority-Christian areas of Indonesia), as well as their distinctive ethnic cultures, are under pressure from mainstream Indonesian language and culture.

This collaborative research project is led by Dr Anthony Jukes, working with Dr Atsuko Utsumi (Meisei University) and Mr Hendrik Paat (Universitas Negeri Manado). It is funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC Discovery Project DP110100662, 2011-2015).
