Course of study:
Bachelor of Science

When I enrolled in the Bachelor of Science, my initial goal was to finish what I started many years ago. I finished Year 12 in 1994 and went on to complete just one year of an Applied Physics degree at another university, which circumstances prevented me from completing. Many years later, at the age of 34, married, with a mortgage and three children, I realised that mathematics and statistics was my true calling.

The best thing about this course is its flexibility; I commenced the degree with the intention of majoring in physics, only to change to maths and then again to maths and stats.

I love the challenge that maths and stats provides me with. The way my subjects are structured, with the practical classes straight after lectures, it really does help reinforce what I'm learning.

The staff are wonderful. They all know me by name and it has been very easy to develop a rapport with lecturers, tutors and other students.

I love La Trobe. I live only ten minutes away and I enjoy the open spaces and welcoming atmosphere. The Campus has everything you need; there is always a computer available somewhere to use, which makes it easy to do homework on campus.

I have caught the learning bug. I intend on going on to complete my Honours and eventually my PhD. I think I would consider lecturing at some stage, or a career in statistics. I know I have good career opportunities, especially since my statistics course is the only undergraduate statistics program accredited by the Statistical Society of Australia. I'm definitely in good hands.

Whatever decision you make now is not the be-all and end-all. Even if you make the wrong decision, there is always time to make changes, whether it is immediately, or decades later!
