Course content

Topics include:

  • Who are hackers?  Learn concepts associated with cyberspace and risk propensity motivation
  • Risk management - explore risk propensity and how your own risk propensity compares with that of a hacker 
  • Hacking approaches and the cyber kill chain
  • Cybercrime and its multidimensional associated emotions that motivate hackers and are experienced by victims.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a digital credential and earn 5 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, 'Hacking: The Business and Criminological Frames', to stack into 'Inside the Mind of a Hacker (CSE5010)', a subject in the Master of Cybersecurity.

You’ll learn:

This microcredential will give you basic skills in:

  • Analysing and acting upon hacker typologies, mindsets and motivations
  • Understanding the various tactics that hackers use in breaching communication networks. 

Your study experience

This course is delivered online with live sessions over a 2 week period.  The total time commitment is up to 40 hours, which includes the live sessions, extended reading and assessment.

 

The assessment for this course comprises:

  • Standalone multiple choice quiz
  • Case study based multiple choice quiz based on secure software concepts, requirements and design (1000 words).

I have paid the fee for a short course. When will I have access to the course?  

Access to courses is generally available two weeks in advance of the scheduled course start date, or as advised in the registration confirmation email.  Course materials are made available via our Learning Management System (LMS) for which you will be provided with your username and initial password.

I need to defer my registration. How do I go about this? 

Prior to your course commencing, you may request a deferral of your registration to the next available course date, by contacting executive_professional_education@latrobe.edu.au.
