Course content

Topics include:

  • Introduction to programming: learn how to think like a computer and write the code required to create fully functional computer programs.
  • Flowcharts and algorithms
  • Variables, statements and comments: writing simple statements and expressions in Python with sensible naming conventions to improve the readability of code.
  • Expressions and data types
  • Comparisons and Boolean logic: using Boolean values to add logic and decisions to code as well as use Boolean expressions to express questions with binary (true/false) answers'
  • Conditional execution of code.
  • Interation control structures: how to repeat the execution of statements, use python range to specify a sequence of numbers and perform aggregations. 

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a digital credential and earn 5 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, Intermediate Python Programming, to stack into 'Introduction to Programming (CSE4IP)', a subject within the Master of Cybersecurity.  

You’ll learn:

Upon successful completion of this microcredential, you will gained the skills to:

  • Analyse a simple data processing problem to correctly identify both the data and high-level processing involved.
  • Apply the basic programming constructs of sequence, selection, and iteration to develop code that solves simple data processing problems.

Your study experience

This course is delivered online with live sessions, over a 2 week period.  The total time commitment for this course is 40 hours, which inlcudes the live sessions, extended reading and assessment.

 

The assessment for this course comprises an online quiz, with a pass rate of 80%.

No, course fees need to be paid in full before you can commence the course.

I have paid the fee for a short course. When will I have access to the course?  

Access to courses is generally available two weeks in advance of the scheduled course start date, or as advised in the registration confirmation email.  Course materials are made available via our Learning Management System (LMS) for which you will be provided with your username and initial password.

I need to defer my registration. How do I go about this? 

Prior to your course commencing, you may request a deferral of your registration to the next available course date, by contacting executive_professional_education@latrobe.edu.au.
