Why this course?

This microcredential, will introduce you to the importance of ethics and professional conduct within the IT sector.

 

Together with its companion course, Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, this microcredential can be stacked into a subject for potential advanced standing in the Master of Cybersecurity.

Course content

Topics include:

  • Exploration of the concepts of ethics and the role of philosophy in decision-making
  • The 'Doing Ethics' technique - and how to separate fact from opinions and fallacies
  • Ethics and the workplace - learn the professional code of conduct run by the Australian Computer Society
  • The critical elements needed to make a reasonably justified decision in the workplace
  • Ethical communication and the challenges that culture presents in communication, and how to manage conflict and difference.

On successful completion of this course, you wil be awarded a digital credential and earn 5 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, 'Entrepreneurship in Information Technology', to stack into 'Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in IT (CSE5003)', a subject within the Master of Cybersecurity.

This microcredential will equip you with the skills to:

  • Apply ethical theory to analyse ethical dilemmas in IT and business through debate.
  • Develop a personal ethical framework for IT practice incorporating awareness of cultural and global issues.

 

 

Your study experience

This course is delivered online with live sessions, over a 2 week period.  The total time commitment for this course is up to 40 hours, which inlcudes the live sessions, extended reading and assessment.

 

The assessment for this course is a written assignment centered on the ethics of power and negotiation in IT (1000 words).

No, course fees need to be paid in full before you can commence the course.

I have paid the fee for a short course. When will I have access to the course?  

Access to courses is generally available two weeks in advance of the scheduled course start date, or as advised in the registration confirmation email.  Course materials are made available via our Learning Management System (LMS) for which you will be provided with your username and initial password.

I need to defer my registration. How do I go about this? 

Prior to your course commencing, you may request a deferral of your registration to the next available course date, by contacting executive_professional_education@latrobe.edu.au.
