Why this course?

This microcredential, aimed at people without cybersecurity experience, will give you the foundational skills and knowledge to identify key elements such as culture, roles and responsibilities to support information security and protect against threats. 

 

Together with its companion course, Cybersecurity Governance, this microcredential can be stacked into a subject for potential advanced standing in the Master of Cybersecurity.

 

Course content

Topics covered include:

  • Cybersecurity governance and its purpose in managing risk and security; and to apply information security frameworks and key concepts to business cases as they relate to governance and cybersecurity governance.
  • Developing the cybersecurity governance business case.
  • Security frameworks:  the minimum security and compliance requirements to develop a business case aligned to  international standards. 
  • Developing a cybersecurity governance framework to formulate security policies aligned with business strategy.

On successful completion of this course, you wil be awarded a digital credential and earn 5 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, 'Cybersecurity Governance', to stack into 'Cybersecurity Governance (CSE4IFU)', a subject within the Master of Cybersecurity.  

 

You’ll learn:

This microcredential will equip you with a foundational knowledge of cybersecurity governance and basic skills in:

  • The elements such as culture, roles and responsibilities to support information security 

  • Applying key concepts as they relate to cybersecurity and information security governance

  • Understanding nature and purpose of the various IS and IT governance framework standards  

  • Developing a cybersecurity governance framework aligned to business strategy, using key concepts and standards.

Your study experience

This course is delivered online with live sessions, over a 4 week period which includes time for completing the assessment.  The total time commitment for this course is up to 40 hours, which inlcudes the live sessions, extended reading and assessment.

 

The assessment for this course is a written report:  Propose a Business Cybersecurity Governance Framework (1000 words).
