Why study pharmacy?

By understanding the properties and impacts of medicines and developing the skills required to counsel patients about their use, pharmacists have the opportunity to improve health and even save lives.

This course aims to prepare you for a rewarding career in pharmacy. You'll focus on achieving excellence in provisions of clinical services and reviewing medication for safety and effectiveness.

You'll develop skills in drug development, action and use in disease states, medication review, counselling and communication. The aim is for you understand the effects and best use of medications and the role of medicines in responsible healthcare.

You'll practise in our model pharmacy at the Bendigo campus, to help you develop your communication and patient-service skills.

Career opportunities

This degree equips you for work in any pharmacy setting, including rural, metropolitan, community and hospital pharmacy. It gives you the chance to forge strong relationships with other health professionals, and it qualifies you to provide pharmacy services within the Australian Defence Forces.

Many pharmacy students go on to run their own pharmacy businesses, where others find great reward and stimulation as a pharmacist in a hospital. As pharmacy is largely a science-based discipline, graduates have also moved into roles in biotechnology, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, paints, environmental science, environmental management and teaching.

Notes regarding eligibility and admission criteria

1. The accreditation status of the Pharmacy course is available through the website of the Australian Pharmacy Council.
2. English language proficiency requirements for local and international students are listed below.
3. As part of the requirements for the Bachelor of Pharmacy, all students must undertake experiential placements. Students are automatically registered for this program upon enrolment, but must undergo a police check.
4. Students applying for advanced standing are considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to the course pre-requisites being met. This individual assessment is done at enrolment.
5. The standards for registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia are given on the PBA website.
