About the Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Science
Keen to explore how the fascinating world of science interacts with the commercial sphere? You'll open your eyes and broaden your mind with La Trobe's Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Science.
This course will enable you to take advantage of the synergies between commerce and science, such as successfully managing a project involving research and development or commercializing intellectual property from a scientific breakthrough.
Whether it's finding new treatments for diseases, developing sustainable ways to grow food, pioneering research in artificial intelligence or building the commercial structures that power scientific innovations, you'll be prepared to pursue your dream career with this flexible double degree.
Co-designed with industry leaders for high-achieving students wishing to make a difference, the course provides a unique multidisciplinary set of skills and knowledge sought-after by employers and policymakers. These skills are achieved through students' flexible choice from a range of majors and minors. Students have the freedom to select major options in both Commerce (Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Management and Marketing) and Science (sixteen majors across a wide range of disciplines), as well as minors from across the University.
One of the truly innovative features of this double degree is an entrepreneurial core, which consists of three interlinked subjects in Commerce plus an innovation challenge in Science. They develop valuable graduate capabilities including independent research, innovative thinking, cultural intelligence, (oral and written) communication, teamwork and leadership. You will first learn to identify an idea or practical solution to a real-world challenge. You will then improve your ability to communicate your solution and negotiate it with the stakeholders. In the final subject, you will develop your capacity to implement your solution in a real-world context. All these skills make you a more effective leader, preparing you to meet the challenges of automation, AI-driven technologies and big data.
You will study alongside world-class researchers from our Centre for AgriBioscience and La Trobe Business School, and benefit from our teaching and research facilities like the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science or the Finance trading room. Our research hubs also offer regular seminars on diverse topics, such as how to fight climate change, breakthroughs in cancer treatment, and new ways to protect our waterways.
During your studies you won't be confined to the classroom. You'll experience hands-on learning, with work placement opportunities across both Commerce and Science subjects. Get the industry experience you need to build an exciting career in the field of your choice. An overseas student exchange program is also available.
The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7 - Bachelor Degree.
