Prerequisite

VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

HSC: One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 3), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 4).

Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Applicants must:
1. Have met published course prerequisites not more than 10 years ago.
2. Applied through VTAC or UAC
3. Submit Rurality Form and School Endorsement Form no later than 5pm AEDT on the first Friday in November.
4. Met the rurality residence requirement
Selection for interview will be based on the applicant's Rurality Form and on their La Trobe Entrance Rank (LTER), determined using official Year 11 results and the School Endorsement Form (for December interviews) or on the applicant's ATAR (for January interviews). The number of applicants interviewed will depend on size of eligible applicant pool and interview availability.
Stage 2 - Applicant ranking for offer:
1. 30% Selection Rank - refer to EAS or SEAS descriptions.
2. 70% MMI Ranking - including assessment of rural connectedness.
Multiple Mini Interview (MMI)
Applicants offered a MMI will be sent an email in mid November detailing the interview process and are required to attend interviews in early December or early January.
The MMI will consists of situational questions focusing on: advocacy, collaboration, critical thinking, empathy, ethical reasoning, motivation, and regional identification.
The applicant must demonstrate adequate communication skills at the MMI.
UAC - EAS (Educational Access Scheme)
Equity adjustments apply. Applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage are encouraged to apply for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS). Depending on eligibility and your circumstances, an EAS application may provide support for your course application and increase your selection rank by up to four points.
Each applicant is given a Selection Rank: a combination of the applicant's ATAR with EAS Regional adjustment (if applicable; maximum EAS adjustment is 4 ATAR points).
Geographical Classification - Remoteness Area
To be eligible applicants must have resided (according to principal home address) for at least 5 years consecutively or 10 years cumulatively in remoteness areas classified by the Modified Monash Model (2019) as MM2 to MM7 since birth (according to principal home address) and preferably have completed Years 11 and 12 at a school in MM2 to MM7.
Regional Adjustment
Applicants with a principal home address in a location classified as Monash Modified Model (2019) MM3 will receive a 5 ATAR point adjustment. Applicants with a principal home address in a location classified as MM4 to MM5 will receive a 12.5 ATAR point adjustment. Applicants with a principal home address in a location classified as MM6 to MM7 will receive a 15 ATAR point adjustment. This adjustment will be applied when determining applicants offered a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI).

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
A minimum unadjusted prerequisite ATAR of 80.00 or GPA 5.11+ in a degree award qualification based on a minimum of 1.00 equivalent full time study load (EFTSL), whichever is higher.
Previous secondary and Higher Education studies must have been undertaken within the last 10 years.

Credit for previous study (advanced standing)

Credit for previous study (advanced standing) is the recognition of prior study or learning that can be counted towards a qualification. This can reduce the number of subjects required to complete your course. The amount of credit received depends on the level and relevance of your previous study and the number of subjects completed.

The University will designate courses where there is only admission into Year 1 of the course. In these cases, there is limited credit. See list of limited entry courses.

Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) career opportunities

Students completing the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) will have a guaranteed* place in the University of Melbourne's Doctor of Medicine (Rural Pathway).

This degree is designed to support regional and rural students to study and then practice in a regional or rural location.

*The University of Melbourne guarantees students who graduate from the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) with a 70 weighted average mark (WAM) a place in the Doctor of Medicine (Rural Pathway) in Shepparton.

If you don't proceed to the Doctor of Medicine, you'll graduate well-prepared for roles in biomedical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries as well as in hospitals and government departments. You will also be suitable for roles in medical sales and health communication.

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)

In a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), your tuition fees are subsidised by the Australian Government. Your share of the fee (the student contribution), is set each year by the government and is determined by the discipline areas (bands) of your individual subjects, not the overall course.

HECS-Help Loan

HECS-HELP is the Australian Government’s Higher Education Loan Program. It enables you to borrow the amount of your student contribution and then pay that loan back once you are in the workforce and earning at a specified level. A HECS-HELP loan is not means tested.

HECS-HELP is available to eligible Australian citizens and permanent humanitarian visa holders who are enrolled in a CSP. As a CSP student, you may be eligible to apply for a HECS-HELP loan, which allows you to defer payment of up to 100% of your student contribution.
