La Trobe University will source placements for some subjects, while others will require you to source your own placement. If you are required to source your own placement, dedicated staff will guide and support you through the process. Elective WBL subjects generally involve an application process and Subject Coordinator approval. The location and number of hours undertaken can vary considerably depending on the activity and the discipline area. Please refer to the individual subject entries for more information. Regional students are eligible to access additional support under the Regional Reward program

About the Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Biomedicine
Learn how to navigate the rapidly evolving socio-economic environment, teaming innovations in biotechnology, health, commercial practices and public policy with La Trobe's Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Biomedicine.
This course will enable you to take advantage of the synergies between the two disciplines, and successfully solve complex problems by combining the approaches from both commerce and biomedicine. Merging technical skills and strategic analysis with in-depth knowledge of innovations in the medical field will open the door to a number of exciting career paths.
Co-designed with industry leaders for high-achieving students wishing to make a difference, the course provides a unique multidisciplinary set of skills and knowledge sought-after by employers and policymakers.
One of the truly innovative features of commerce component of this double degree is an entrepreneurial core, which consists of three interlinked subjects developing valuable graduate capabilities. These include independent research, innovative thinking, cultural intelligence, (oral and written) communication, teamwork and leadership. You will first learn to identify an idea or practical solution to a real-world challenge. You will then improve your ability to communicate your solution and negotiate it with the stakeholders. In the final subject, you will develop your capacity to implement your solution in a real-world context. All these skills make you a more effective leader, preparing you to meet the challenges of automation, AI-driven technologies and big data.
In your biomedicine subjects, you will build fundamental knowledge of chemistry, bioscience and health before delving into infectious diseases, epidemics and pandemics. You'll also develop key knowledge in anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, genetics, immunology and neuroscience.
During your studies, you will have the opportunity to undertake an industry placement, work-integrated learning project and/or an overseas student exchange.
The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7 - Bachelor Degree.
