Master of Teaching (Primary)
The Master of Teaching (Primary) builds preservice teacher knowledge and skills to teach across the curriculum. There is an emphasis on researching teacher practice in numeracy and literacy.
There is demand in the sector to build efficacy of graduates in the areas of diagnostic learning, special needs, pedagogical expertise and relationship skill building. This course gives you the opportunity to specialise in these areas. The pedagogical structure allows graduates to work and adapt effectively in complex contemporary learning environments.
Professional experience is based around inquiry and experiential learning with iterative skill development opportunities linking knowledge, context and experience to understanding the theoretical dimensions needed to understand practice in school and other learning contexts.
Academic entry requirement
1. Grade Point Average (GPA) at 4 (credit)
2. Applicants undertaking the Master of Teaching must hold a Bachelor degree or approved equivalent in a relevant discipline area/s for primary or secondary teaching as per the National Program Standards and the Victorian Institute of Teaching. For a primary focus these may include; Science, Mathematics, Arts, Humanities, Languages, Physical Education, etc.
Note: The Master of Teaching is delivered through a blended online learning model. Students are required to attend face-to-face intensive classes for up to five-days per semester at Melbourne Campus. Students must be prepared to travel to this campus for these classes.
* Applicants who hold a Bachelor of Teaching qualification are advised not to enrol in this course.
English language requirement
UG & PG (incl HDR) Option 4 - Academic 7.5, no band less than 7.0
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic module with an average band score of 7.5 across all four skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing - where there is no score below 7 in any of the four skills areas and a score of no less than 8 in speaking and listening ON ENTRY.
The Master of Teaching (Primary) prepare you for a range of teaching careers in: - primary schools - early childhood education - special education - community - non-traditional learning environments, including advisory boards, private organisations and local and state government.
The Master of Teaching (Primary) is accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Professional registration may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.
