6 months full-time or 1 year part-time. Semester 1 (March) is part-time only, while Semester 2 (July) can be done in full-time or part-time mode.

$23,500 per 120 credit points.

This course is designed to introduce healthcare workers and managers to the formal study of health services management. It aims to provide you with key competencies in health services management and an understanding of health policy and management concepts.

You'll study the healthcare sector and the policy context within which managers work, while developing the key skills and knowledge for effective management. If you are a manager with experience in other industries and are planning a career change, this course could help you move into the healthcare sector.

Entry requirements

Prerequisites

An undergraduate degree or equivalent and at least two years of professional experience in the health system.

NB: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Career outcomes

Graduates are likely to find work in middle management roles in health administration and health management. This could include roles in the public and private sectors, hospitals, health centres, research centres, pharmaceutical companies, insurance providers, consulting firms and government organisations.

Professional recognition

The Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management is accredited by the Australasian College of Health Service Management. Professional registration may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.
