Master of Teaching (Secondary)
You'll graduate well versed in the diverse academic and developmental needs of young people. You'll gain discipline expertise to teach across the stages of schooling, with specialisation in one double (Drama, Mathematics, Physical Education and Visual Arts) or two single method-teaching areas from the following disciplines:
- Outdoor Education
- Physical Education
- Technology Studies
- Visual Arts
Professional experience is based around inquiry and experiential learning with iterative skill development opportunities linking knowledge, context and experience to understanding the theoretical dimensions needed to understand practice in school and other learning contexts. You'll complete 60 days of professional experience during the course.
Academic entry requirement
1. Grade Point Average (GPA) at 4 (credit)
2. Applicants undertaking the Master of Teaching must hold a Bachelor degree or approved equivalent in a relevant discipline area/s for primary or secondary teaching as per the National Program Standards and the Victorian Institute of Teaching. For secondary teaching, students must qualify in either one double (Drama, Mathematics, Physical Education and Visual Arts) or two single method-teaching areas from the above listed disciplines.
Note: The Master of Teaching is delivered through a blended online learning model. Students are required to attend face-to-face intensive classes for up to five-days per semester at Melbourne Campus. Students must be prepared to travel to this campus for these classes.
* Applicants who hold Bachelor of Teaching qualification are advised not to enroll in this course.
English language requirement
UG & PG (incl HDR) Option 4 - Academic 7.5, no band less than 7.0
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic module with an average band score of 7.5 across all four skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing - where there is no score below 7 in any of the four skills areas and a score of no less than 8 in speaking and listening ON ENTRY.
You'll be prepared for a range of teaching careers in: - secondary schools - community - non-traditional learning environments, including advisory boards, private organisations and local and state government.
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Professional registration may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.
