This double degree combines the specialist finance knowledge necessary for success in the finance industry with an interdisciplinary overview of issues related to international business, and how these issues influence the global economy.

Our Master of Financial Analysis is an ideal route to internationally recognised professional careers in finance. You'll develop or extend your professional skills in finance and gain a broad understanding of economics, accounting, management and quantitative methods.

The program is based on a defined body of knowledge of proven relevance to the finance industry.

Our finance subjects are ranked in the top 7 per cent in the world by the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015. This expertise informs our course content and our teaching.

We've developed the Master of Financial Analysis course in collaboration with business and professional associations, particularly CFA Institute.This means you'll graduate with the professional skills needed to gain entry into a range of challenging and rewarding careers in the financial sector.

The Master of International Business (MIB) provides an education in the essential techniques of international business management, keeping a balance between academic rigour and exposure to a wide range of practical experiences in the various aspects of international management.

As a graduate you'll be ready for a high-level career in investment, banking and finance roles both locally and overseas. This could include export/import companies, joint ventures, public sector areas involved in international trade and conglomerates with subsidiaries reaching around the globe.

Seminars and lectures are held at our Melbourne Campus. While most classes are held during the day, some are held outside work hours and in block mode.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 9.

Entry requirements

Academic entry requirement

The minimum entry requirement is successful completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or its equivalent). Prior learning developed through relevant work experience or professional accreditation, where it is deemed to be at least equivalent to that obtained through a Bachelor degree, may be considered. In making an offer to an applicant, the University will give consideration to a range of factors to determine whether an applicant has demonstrated the capacity to work at a Master's level, including academic record, English proficiency, and/or employment experience. (Optional) The Bachelor degree (or equivalent) must be deemed cognate to gain entry to a 1.5 year Master degree, otherwise, the applicant will be considered for a 2 year Master degree program.
NB: Meeting minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

English language requirement

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0.

Our Master of Financial Analysis (MFA) program will give you entry into a range of challenging and rewarding careers in the finance sector as well as providing a pathway to several widely recognised designations of professional excellence within the investment industry. The Master of International Business (MIB) provides an education in the essential techniques of international business management, keeping a balance between academic rigour and exposure to a wide range of practical experiences in the various aspects of international management. The MFA will give you the essential skills for high-level careers in the financial sector including roles in investment and asset management, banking, corporate finance and financial management. Our graduates have moved into roles such as Senior Investment Officer, Finance Executive and Business Analyst. They are employed by companies in Australia and around the world including PwC, Telstra, KPMG, ANZ and EY (formerly Ernst & Young).

Professional recognition

Graduates of the Master of Financial Analysis/Master of International Business may be eligible to apply for registration with the CFA Institute. Professional registration may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.
Graduates of the Master of International Business may apply for membership with Institute of Managers and Leaders (IML). Membership may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.

Additional information

If you can demonstrate prior learning in business, either in the form of an undergraduate degree in a business-related field or with at least five years relevant business experience, you'll be eligible to apply for Advanced Standing for the four subjects of the first semester of the course. In making you an offer of Advanced Standing, the University may give consideration to a range of factors including your English language proficiency, academic record, and employment experience.
