Overview
Communicating in a fast-changing world for businesses, government and community groups requires highly skilled specialists. The Master of Communication (Public Relations) aims to equip graduates from all fields to the highest levels in this growth industry of the 21st century. It will equip you with a range of skills in areas including issues management, campaign development, media relations, community relations and internal communication and writing and research for strategic communication.

Knowing how to navigate a newsroom is easier when you learn from someone who has lived and breathed the media industry in Australia for their entire career.
Lawrie Zion has over 25 years’ experience in the media, including a nine-year stint at ABC radio, where he was based at Triple J. Lawrie has worked for The Australian, The Age, US-based trade paper The Hollywood Reporter, Rolling Stone Australia and HQ. He’s also been a regular guest on the Ten Network’s The Panel. Lawrie continues to appear regularly on ABC radio and on ABC TV's News Breakfast.
Entry requirements
Academic entry requirement
An approved Bachelor's degree with 60% average in the humanities, social sciences or similar discipline.
NB: Meeting minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.
English language requirement
An overall IELTS academic score of 7.0 with a score of no less than 7.0 in writing, listening, reading and speaking.
Career outcomes
The course is designed to prepare you for careers in public relations, marketing, journalism, media, advertising and sales promotion. Strategic communication can also open the door to senior and general management.
