Suitably qualified, internationally-registered nurses with approval from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), are eligible to undertake this 13 week, non-award program. Successful completion of IRON will lead to registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia.

In this program students will build on their theoretical and skill based knowledge of nursing in preparation to transition into the Australian nursing workforce. Students will have learning experiences that incorporate contemporary healthcare research, evidenced based educational approaches and identified societal needs. IRON will provide the students with an understanding of healthcare in Australian context with the opportunity for reflection of contemporary and emerging thinking about evidence based nursing practice.

Areas of study include: legal and ethical accountability, culturally appropriate care, an introduction to the Australian healthcare system and communication.

The primary venues for clinical placements are Bendigo Health and St John of God Hospital, both located in Bendigo. The clinical component of the course consists of five, eight-hour shifts per week for the duration of the professional placement period required by the student to demonstrate competence, with a maximum of 400 hours.
