The Graduate Certificate is a program of study offering choices in a range of cutting-edge coursework subjects, as well as research project options that can provide an opportunity progress to the Master of Communication (Journalism Innovation).

The focus is on enhancing journalistic practice while developing skills essential for the 21st century media professional. You'll develop insights and strong responses to the contemporary, changing media industry.

Strong industry links are maintained through the program's extensive work placement scheme, which offers you the chance to spend time in a newsroom.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 8.

Entry requirements

Prerequisites

The minimum entry requirement is successful completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or its equivalent). Prior learning developed through relevant work experience or professional accreditation, where it is deemed to be at least equivalent to that obtained through a Bachelor degree, may be considered.

Note: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Advanced Standing is the recognition of previous study or learning that can be counted towards a qualification. This can reduce the number of subjects required to complete your course. The amount of credit received depends on the level and relevance of your previous tertiary study and the number of subjects completed.
