Biochemistry and genetics

Why study biochemistry and genetics?

Biochemistry and genetics define the mechanisms that make life possible, enabling biological processes to be described at a molecular level. This knowledge has important applications throughout many areas of society including medicine, biotechnology and environmental science.

Students have access to some of the best laboratory-based teaching and research facilities in the world with the  $100 million La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS) building, opened in 2013.

Biochemistry and genetics subjects can be studied within degrees such as the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Biological Sciences and Bachelor of Biomedicine.

Career opportunities

You will be prepared for a career in many areas related to biomedical research, molecular cell biology and biotechnology.
