Professional background/experience

My background is in student and trade unionism. I served as the La Trobe Student Union Environment Officer in 2020, and I was elected Student Body President for 2021. In that time, we ran a number of highly successful campaigns, had record student engagement, and saved the Student Union from the edge of bankruptcy. My focus was on rebuilding a culture of passionate and effective student representation and harnessing the collective bargaining power of the student body. In the trade union sphere, I have worked extensively with the Transport Workers Union for safer conditions for truck drivers, fair settlements for airline workers illegally stood down by QANTUS, and an end to low paid, unsafe, and unregulated gig-work. I am a third year Politics, Philosophy, and Economics Student – and considering doing further study on the role of education in the economy of developing countries. (If I ever finish this degree that is)

I am excited to bring a student perspective to University Council, I hope to learn a lot throughout my year, and hope that my experience within the Student Union and beyond can add real value to the discussion and decisions of Council this year.
