The NGV becomes the classroom

Learn among the world’s greatest artists

For the seventh consecutive year, La Trobe will host Summer School at the NGV – the only university-accredited subject taught within Australia’s most visited art gallery.

This exclusive industry learning experience gives La Trobe students behind-the-scenes access to the NGV, where they take class with leading curators and academics. By opening doors to the worlds of contemporary and modern art, students broaden their minds and build invaluable experience in preparation for their future careers.

Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Studying the socio-political world of 1980s New York icons

As part of this world-first exhibition, students will gain fascinating insights into the unique visual languages and reveals in Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s works. From Haring’s graffiti-inspired drawings to Basquiat’s Neo-Expressionist paintings, students will unpack the intricate themes and begin to analyse the art and artists from all angles.

Taught by experts of the NGV and La Trobe, students are invited to explore a momentous art movement by some of the greatest change-makers of the past century, delving deep into how their lives, practices and ideas intersect.

Summer School at the NGV will run:

  • Week one | 15-17 January 2020
  • Week two | 22-24 January 2020
