Definitions:

Awards/prizes

A prize or award is a reward for merit achieved after competition against other people.

  • A one-off payment or other reward given in recognition of academic results
  • Only given to continuing students
  • May be funded by the University or an external donor
  • May be undergraduate or postgraduate

Bursaries

A bursary is money given to provide aid to students on a needs basis.

  • Usually a one-off payment awarded to support academic studies
  • A sum of money given to a student to support their academic studies
  • May apply to commencing or continuing students
  • May be awarded based on access and participation criteria, academic merit, meeting an industry need, or a combination of all three
  • May be funded by the University or an external donor
  • May be undergraduate or postgraduate

Awards, prizes and bursaries


The following awards, prizes and bursaries will be offered in 2021 and require students to apply. The closing date for applications is Sunday 4 April 2021.

La Trobe Alumni Bendigo Chapter – Undergraduate Award $1000

Awarded to a full-time student who has successfully completed all subjects in the first and second years of a course and has demonstrated a contribution to the welfare of the student community.

La Trobe Alumni Bendigo Chapter – Postgraduate Award $1000

Awarded to support a postgraduate student enrolled at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University.

Barrie Winzar Bursary $2000

Awarded to a second year Bendigo student who displays academic merit with preference given to students from specific areas.

Bendigo Oral Health and Dentistry Society Bursary (Dentistry) $1000

Awarded to a fourth year Bachelor of Health Sciences in Dentistry/Master of Dentistry student who is a current member of BOHDS and has demonstrated how they have contributed to the wider community in oral health promotion.

Bendigo Oral Health and Dentistry Society Bursary (Oral Health) $1000

Awarded to a second year student undertaking the Bachelor of Oral Health to support them in their chosen summer elective and who has demonstrated how they have contributed to the wider community in oral health promotion.

Davey Family Bursary $1000

Awarded to an undergraduate student, preferably from the Eaglehawk area, enrolled at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University.

Di Francis Memorial Community Health Award $1000

Awarded to assist second- or third-year nursing students undertaking community health sector clinical practicums.

Flo Robinson Education Memorial Bursary $2500

Awarded to support three students from regional Victoria who are enrolled in the second, third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Early Childhood and Primary Education or the Bachelor of Education (Primary), or who is commencing postgraduate studies in Master of Special Education at the Bendigo campus. There will be one bursary awarded for each eligible year of study.

Holsworth Dentistry Bursary $5000

Awarded to financially support a third year Dentistry student from regional Australia to purchase equipment.

Holsworth Oral Health Bursary $2000

Awarded to financially support a second- or third-year Oral Health Science student from regional Australia to purchase equipment.

Holsworth Paramedicine Bursary $2000

Awarded to financially support a third year Paramedic Practice student from regional Australia, to purchase equipment.

Kirkland Lake Gold Bursary $2000

Awarded to a third year Bendigo student who displays academic merit with preference given to students from specific areas.

Kylie Morrow Memorial Award $1000

Awarded to a Bendigo Arts, Educational Studies or Education (Primary or Secondary) student who completed their first year in 2020, with an emphasis on high academic achievement.

LARHC (La Trobe Rural Health Club) Bursary $1000

Awarded to a student who is a current member of LARHC, is studying a health-related course, and is passionate about rural health and committed to working in a rural or remote town.

La Trobe Student Association Advancement Bursary

Awarded to a third or final year Bendigo student who has demonstrated personal investment in their own learning, via unpaid structured work experience, voluntary community work or an unpaid internship.

La Trobe Student Association Bursary

Awarded to a Bendigo full time undergraduate student who is attempting their first degree and has satisfactorily completed their first year of study.

Leslie Kilmartin Regional Bursary $1000

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate commencing first time higher education student with preference given to central or northern Victoria students.

Mothers Union Freda Briggs Memorial Award $1000

Awarded to a Bendigo Social Work student who has completed a child and family wellbeing placement through SWP5PPA or SWP5PPB.

The Mob Advancement Bursary $1000

Awarded to a ‘Mob’ financial member who is enrolled into the 2nd to 5th year of an Outdoor Education degree, discipline or elective.

Trentham Spudfest Agribusiness Bursary $1000

Awarded to a second- or third-year Business (Agribusiness) student who displays academic merit with preference given to students residing in the Trentham area.

The following awards and bursaries will be offered in 2021 but there is no need for students to apply. These awards and bursaries are based on academic merit and are determined by the appropriate School.

Information Technology Professional Award $500

Awarded to an outstanding final year Information Technology student for their achievement in the subject 'Professional Environment'.

Lorna Cohn Memorial Pharmacy Prize $500

Awarded to the student with the highest academic score across all subjects in the third year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy.

Mark Harrington Memorial Award $500

Awarded for academic merit to an information technology student who has successfully completed the first year of a degree course and is proceeding into the second year of the course.

Penfold Biomedical Sciences Award $500

Awarded to a Bachelor of Biomedical Science student for achieving the highest academic score in the subject PHA2PGB, Pharmacology B

Robert C Clark Memorial Award $2000

Awarded to support two outstanding students undertaking the Bachelor of Arts. One award of $1000 will be given to a second year student who completed first year in 2020. The other $1000 award will be given to a third year student who completed second year in 2020.

T.A. McLelland Memorial Award $1000

Awarded to the student who has demonstrated academic excellence in chemistry.

Westate Social Work Award for Inclusion in Communities $500

Awarded to the social work student who achieved the highest marks in the subject 'Inclusion in Communities'.

Westate Social Work Award for Social Policy Analysis and Advocacy $500

Awarded to the social work student who achieved the highest mark in the subject ‘Social Policy Analysis and Advocacy’.
