La Trobe Asia Grants

La Trobe Asia regularly awards grants to La Trobe University researchers, to support research in Asian countries and themes, or support collaborations with Asia-based institutions across the entire University.

La Trobe Asia Research Grant Program 2019

The La Trobe Asia Research Grant Program is now open for 2019.

We will disperse around $20,000 in small grants to support La Trobe University academics who hold Level A, B or C appointments and who research on / in the Asian region or with Asian collaborators. The 2019 grant program is NOT open to students or casual academic staff.

The research project must clearly meet at least ONE of these criteria:

(a) it examines some aspect of the social, political, cultural, linguistic, legal or historical dimensions of Asia’s states and/or peoples;
(b) involves close collaboration with a partner based in an Asian institution; or
(c) requires Asia-based fieldwork or data collection.

We will also expect recipients of the grants to have identified a clear pathway to publish their outcomes in a journal included in the La Trobe University Publication Award Scheme (or a recognised high quality refereed journal) and to indicate how this grant will contribute to a subsequent external grant application.

La Trobe Asia Visiting Research Fellowship Program 2019

The La Trobe Asia Visiting Research Fellowship Program is now open for 2019 and is to help strengthen the University’s research links with Asia-based researchers.  This program aims to provide funding to bring leading Asia-based researchers to La Trobe to work on high quality research outputs, strengthen institutional research partnerships and foster research engagement with dynamic Asia-based researchers and institutions.

In 2019, we will provide up to four grants of no more than $10,000 AUD each to bring leading researchers from the region to La Trobe with the expectation that their time at La Trobe helps achieve these goals.

Applications will need to be made on behalf of a researcher by an academic at La Trobe and Fellows will be based in the relevant departments/centres. Because of this commitment, the application will need to be supported by the head of department/centre/school.
