Castlemaine State Festival
The Castlemaine State Festival is held in March every second year. La Trobe University is a sponsor of this important cultural event.
In 2017, the LAI supported a symposium with the 10 exhibiting artists featured in the LAI Bendigo Mutable Truths exhibition, providing rare and inspiring insights into contemporary Filipino art.The LAI also supported one of these artists in residence, Leeroy New. Leeroy worked with La Trobe University students in the development of a work for the façade of the Castlemaine Art Museum, La Puerta Del Laberinto.
In 2019 La Trobe Art Institute curated the Visual Arts Program for the Castlemaine State Festival. This ambitious curatorial program, presented the work of more than 30 local, Australian, and international artists across 10 sites throughout Castlemaine. Alongside the exhibition program the LAI also delivered a dedicated education and public programs itinerary, that included an accredited HUSS subject, four cross-disciplinary academic Field Talks, several curatorial guided tours, multiple school talks, panel discussions, artist lectures, a film screening, an artist performance, and a roving radio station.
