Archaeology Research Partnerships

La Trobe Archaeology Research Partnerships provides specialist technical and expert research services to industry partners. We work together with Traditional Owner and government organisations, heritage practitioners and other research institutions to deliver outcomes for cultural heritage management and research projects.

The services we offer are continually expanding but currently include:

    • geophysical survey techniques, including ground penetrating radar (GPR) and magnetic gradiometry
    • geochemical and mineralogical analyses, including portable X-Ray Fluorescence (pXRF) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
    • palaeoenvironmental analyses, including palynology (pollen) and charcoal studies
    • sediment coring
    • palaeomagnetic and archaeomagnetic analyses
    • GIS analysis, including modelling landscape change
    • professional survey and recording services for artefacts, features and landscapes, including photogrammetry, laser scanning, specialised microscopy techniques, and 3D printing
    • stone artefact analysis and interpretation, including use wear and residue analysis
    • historical artefact analysis and interpretation
    • faunal analysis and interpretation, including shell midden analysis
    • professional development workshops
