About the Department
The Department of Accounting, Data Analytics, Economics and Finance, led by Greg Jameson, is one of two Departments within the AACSB accredited La Trobe Business School (LBS). The Department combines high quality research, teaching and business and community engagement.
The Department has a proud history of quality teaching and research and is consistently ranked amongst the best in Australia.
The staff are active researchers and are engaged with industry in activities that build students' employability and create impact in communities. Through its research, teaching and engagement, we are committed to the promotion of social, economic and environmental responsibility and sustainability in management, business and societal contexts.
We offer degrees at both the undergraduate and postgraduate coursework level as well as Honours and Higher Degree Research (HDR). We aim to undertake research of the highest quality and to bring the understanding and excitement from the latest state-of-the-art research into our teaching throughout our undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Our courses provide students with a range of highly prized transferable skills enabling them to stand out in an increasingly competitive world.
Accounting, economics and finance
In accounting, our strengths are in areas including but not limited to corporate governance and disclosure, sustainability and social responsibility accounting, management accounting and organisational change, and public sector and not-for-profit accounting.
Our accounting and finance subjects rank in the top 150 in the world, and in the top 15 in Australia. Our Economics and Econometrics subjects rank in the top 15 in Australia (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018). According to the Australian Research Council’s Excellence in Research for Australia, we rank well above work standard for our banking, finance and investment research, one of the top four in Australia.
A key strength is in applied economics, particularly in business cycles, climate change and environmental economics, economics of education, innovation, international economics and trade.
Data analytics
The data analytics discipline specialises in cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning including cognitive science, computational neuroscience and cognitive psychology.
