Transcript: Welcome to your Library Welcome to your library! We offer virtual access to our online collections via the library website 24/7. Today we are going to unlock some key features of the Library website to help you with your studies. Let's start with how to find library resources online. You can search for resources by typing in keywords, titles or authors into Library Search (or these other tabs) to find high quality academic material. Using this search tool, you can find books, journal articles, videos and other items, both in our physical libraries and online. You can also request items that are not available at your home campus through Library Search. Borrowing information can be found by expanding the 'borrowing' section on the library homepage and selecting 'What can I borrow and for how long?' You will also find other information like how to request an item or how to find physical items on the shelf. To borrow books you will need your student card, which is also your library card. This card also provides swipe access to some buildings and rooms on campus. You can use the self-check machines located at your campus, or see library staff if available. To request and access library online resources you will have to sign into your Library account. You can do this through 'Account Login' which you can find on the library homepage. And you will sign in as the LTU students/staff option. To access most online resources, use your LTU username and password – that's just your student number, not your full email address. If you have questions, you can chat with us through 'Live Chat.' This is a live text service staffed by librarians and it's great for on the spot support with things like referencing or finding and accessing information. Through chat we can also start a Zoom session which enables us to share our screens, which can be really helpful for more in-depth questions. You can also access additional academic support services by clicking on 'assessment/thesis support' and selecting The Learning Hub. Here you will find information on how to connect with the support services on offer to students. You can access Reading lists from LMS or under the 'Assessment/thesis support' tab. The Library puts your readings for each subject together to make them easier to access. Your reading list will be a mix of online articles, eBooks, books or videos. Selecting any of these resources shows further details including availability at La Trobe campuses. You will also need to log in to view digitised book chapters, ebooks or articles. View current library training and workshops via calendar in the 'What's on' box on the library homepage or view upcoming events to see what will be on offer. The library delivers classes on finding information, referencing & Endnote and more. Just select the class or session you want to attend, and register. These are guides created by the library to assist you with your studies and can be found in the 'assessment/thesis support' tab. If we check out "Essential Tools" for example, there are guides on how to use eBooks or EndNote. If we expand on "Finding Information", there are guides using Google and Google Scholar and guides on how to write book reviews, or literature reviews. Then if we scroll down, there are lots of subject or discipline-based guides such as health, business or humanities. For example, by selecting Health, you will see a list of subject guides, one of which is Nursing and if we open that up, you can see all the tabs with the different resources and support. These guides are freely available 24/7 to help you with your study. From the Expert Help Guide landing page, you will also see Achieve@Uni. This is another resource you can use anytime to get some tips and support to help with your assessments. From the library homepage, in the 'assessment/thesis support' tab, you will see the Academic Referencing Tool. This is an excellent tool which provides lots of examples for referencing in your style. The style you need to use, such as APA 7 or Harvard, should be detailed in your subject learning guide in the LMS but, if not, check with your Subject Coordinator. Click on the 'About' tab from the library homepage, and find our contact information, or on the homepage, select a campus to view building opening hours and staffed hours if you wish to visit in person.
