Transcript: Using Library search This is a quick guide to get you started using Search, a tool to help you find resources for your research project or assignment task. You can search for a specific title, author or by campus and collection by using the drop-down filters. Once you type in your search terms click on the Go button. Search has a predictive text function which may be useful if you're looking for a specific item with a general title. In the results page you're shown items that match your search terms. You can use further filtering options on the left-hand side of your screen to find fewer but more relevant results. For example you can choose resources: - by peer-reviewed - by resource type - by date - or location. Your active filters can be viewed here. Your filters can also be cleared. The results are displayed by relevance but by using sort by you can choose to arrange them by date most recently published, title, or by author. Your results will then reload on the screen to match the restrictions that you applied to narrow your search. You can exclude items from your results by clicking on the exclude this icon next to the filter that you wish to exclude. To view online content click on the full-text available or online access link. You may be asked for your La Trobe login details before you can access the online item. You may also have to click on a full-text link in addition to logging in. To find physical or print items at a campus library click on the 'Available at' link to view the locations availability and the call number. You will need the call number to locate the item on the shelf. If the item is on the shelf and available at your campus then you will need to visit the library to collect it. If the book is already on loan or at another campus library use the request button and login to request the item be sent to your closest campus library. To exit from the screen use the X on the left hand side of your screen. For some items you will see multiple versions meaning both an online and physical or print copy or different editions are held in the library's collection. To view the versions click on 'See all versions'. A useful feature of Search is the ability to print, email or export your search results. You can also save your search to run again in the future. You can view saved searches and items via your favourites screen. Access your favourites by clicking on the drop pin on the top right of the screen. To view your account information go to 'My Account'. Here you can view and renew loans, view requests and other information including previous loans. If you have any questions about search or the library you can ask the librarian via online chat or check out our frequently asked questions.
