Greg Woodward - PhD - Coordinator, Melbourne Waterwatch
Melbourne Waterwatch is a free river health education and monitoring program. The primary goal of Melbourne Waterwatch is to foster community awareness, understanding and ownership of local water quality issues, through active involvement in monitoring the health of Melbourne’s creeks, rivers and wetlands.
My job involves teaching school and community groups how to monitor the health of our waterways. A typical Waterwatch session may include a habitat survey of a site, sampling the macroinvertebrate community and measuring a number of water quality variables.
I really love my job because it provides a great mix of science and education, and I get to spend a lot of time out in the field.
