Julie Smith. Bachelor of Biological Sciences (Honours). Clinical Research Coordinator, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Royal Children’s Hospital.

The Respiratory Medicine Department within the Royal Children’s Hospital provides paediatric respiratory care and research to Victorian families. Our aim is to provide a world class service to improve health outcomes for children and young people with respiratory diseases throughout Victoria. My role began as a Research Assistant, helping with different projects within the department and establishing a diagnostic facility to diagnose rare disorders back in 2001. It then moved into a more senior position where I now coordinate the establishment and day to day running of projects for patients with Cystic Fibrosis and Asthma. Whilst aiding in protocol development, contract negotiations and ethics submissions. I enjoy collaborating with various institutes around the world, as well as the International doctors that train in our department, giving me the chance to continually learn.
