Travis Dutka - PhD - Postdoctoral Research Officer, La Trobe University
I work in a research laboratory which studies muscle physiology. Skeletal muscle is involved in a myriad of important roles in any vertebrate’s life. Primarily, my research focuses on how mammalian skeletal muscle cells normally function and how their function might be impaired under diseased or fatigued states.
Some of my research has helped dispel the myth that lactic acid is the cause of muscle fatigue. I find this aspect of my work fulfilling and interesting, because it helps us better understand how the body functions.
Understanding of how muscles work may help researchers find cures or fix problems associated with abnormal muscle.
