Applying for research

Honours

  1. Check the Honours projects page for interesting projects and potential supervisors.
  2. Hake a look at the latest Honours Handbook [PDF 341KB] to get an idea of the course requirements.
  3. Approach potential supervisors as early as possible. Make an appointment to see them.
  4. Attend an Honours information session in August/September to discuss projects with supervisors or make an appointment to meet them afterwards.
  5. Nominate your preferred projects via the online project selection form. The form will open in September 2013 and the closing date for expressions is 15 November 2013.
  6. Get good marks in your final exams! Although the entrance mark is only 70% in your third year zoology major, you are competing for your preferred project or supervisor.
  7. Supervisors will contact successful applicants to offer positions, usually by mid-December.
  8. Successful Honours students should enrol in Honours at the Faculty office.

What if I am planning to finish mid way through next year?

If you are finishing halfway through the year, you should still apply for Honours at the end of the current year as many projects start in August and you may be eligible for this round. A supervisor may accept you conditionally if your marks suggest you are a good student.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate studies at Masters and PhD level by research are available. Students interested in applying for research are encouraged to first contact prospective supervisors to discuss potential research topics.
