Zoology 3rd year enrolment - 2012

Component Selection Form

There is a quota of 100 students for ZOO3EPA and ZOO3EPB. Entry will be based upon academic performance in ZOO2AFE and /or ZOO2APH. The component preferences below only apply if you are accepted into ZOO3EPA and/or ZOO3EPB. Submission of this form does not guarantee acceptance into these components or subjects.

Students will be notified in mid December if they have qualified for entry into ZOO3EPA and ZOO3EPB. Those students who fail to gain a place in ZOO3EPA can enrol in ZOO3TZA (15 point) – the lecture only section of ZOO3EPA. Those students who fail to gain a place in ZOO3EPB can enrol in ZOO3TZB (15 point) – the lecture only section of ZOO3EPB. Those students who fail to gain a place in ZOO3EPA or ZOO3EPB and are enrolled in the Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience are also able to enrol in WEM3ALP (15 point) and /or WEM3ARZ (15 point) Field Course subjects. Enrolment in WEM3ALP and WEM3ARZ must be completed by 2nd November. WEM3ALP (Alpine Ecology field trip subject 2012) is an Alpine Ecology Field Course conducted at Falls Creek from Sunday 12th February to Saturday 18th February 2012. Cost is $400 which covers accommodation and some travel but not food. WEM3ARZ (Arid Zone Ecology field trip subject 2012) is an Arid Zone Ecology Field Course based at Sturt National Park over 9 days from Saturday 14th July to Sunday 22nd July 2012. Cost is $540 and covers food, accommodation and most of the travel involved. See link for more information. Please note that you will not be able to enroll in these two Field Courses online. You must complete the subject addition section of a variation of enrolment form.

Animal and Veterinary Biosciences students - semester 1 subject choice→
We encourage all Animal and Veterinary Biosciences students to enroll in both ZOO3EPA (Online) and WEM3ALP (complete form available at [www.latrobe.edu.au/deme/Alpine%20Ecology%20subject%20application%20form.pdf) if:
1. you are interested in both options (ZOO3EPA or ZOO3TZA/WEM3ALP) and
2. you think that you may be excluded from ZOO3EPA by the quota (your best mark for ZOO2AFE or ZOO2APH will be less than 70%)

Note:

The Heron Island Field Course is offered at the end of 2012 for students enrolled in ZOO3EPA and/or ZOO3EPB in 2012. If the minimum quota is not met, then the field course will be opened to the student cohort who will be enrolling in third year for 2013.

Each semester subject in third year Zoology has three components.
Wildcard components, such as field courses and a research project, may be used to replace one of the standard components . Please be aware that field courses are run outside normal semester times (i.e. November/December and Easter). If you enrol in a subject, the standard components are selected by default unless you indicate to replace one or more of these with a wildcard component. It is possible to have up to three wildcard components, but each wildcard component can only be counted once. You should consult the La Trobe Handbook in conjunction with the information provided on the various options when making your choice, to ensure that you meet appropriate pre-requisites. But please note that the component descriptions and options provided in our component descriptions webpage supersede those in the Handbook

NOTE
(1) your enrolment is provisional until confirmed by the Department;
(2) strict minimum and maximum quotas are imposed on the field courses;
(3) quotas are decided by academic merit; and
(4) enrolment for a field course will not be considered without payment of the deposit by the due date and formal enrolment (via
Student Online) in the appropriate subject.

You must complete all information below. It is suggested that you work sequentially through this form.

If you select one or more field courses, you must complete the Abiding Agreement and Emergency Information forms (download PDF or RTF version - see link box at right). These must be submitted to the Department of Zoology, La Trobe University, Bundoora, Vic. 3086 Australia, at or before the time your deposit is paid.

Step 3 - Research Project Only one project option may be chosen. This is equivalent to a component and can be used as a wildcard component in a subject. As acceptance in a research project is dependent on eligibility (determined later) please also select normal component options in each semester. If accepted for a research project you will then be asked to indicate which component choice in a subject you wish to replace.
  1. I will not apply for a research project (go to Step 4a)

  • If you meet the eligibility requirements and you are interested in a project offered below, contact the relevant academic
  • You must have a minimum of 80% in one of the 2nd year zoology subjects to be eligible
  • Acceptance in a research project is based on an "interview" with the academic concerned.
