Philosophy Program
Philosophy - VCE Philosophy
If you are reading this, it is probably because you are aware that Philosophy is now available as a VCE subject: Year 11 (Units 1 and 2) and Year 12 (Units 3 and 4). The Philosophy Program at La Trobe University is pleased to advise that it offers substantial support to schools and other VCE providers adding this subject to their VCE list.
The VCE Philosophy Support Program is a package consisting of:
- a four day Intensive Workshop in December each year
- a phone-in or e-mail service for advice on the run
The Philosophy Program at La Trobe University is one of the larger philosophy departments in Australasia, and it has a strong reputation for research and for the quality of its teaching.
The program is able to provide support in both the academic content of the VCE units and in pedagogic matters. We think that this is of particular importance, not just because as a teacher you will rightly be concerned for both aspects of your practice, but because the two are so closely intertwined in classroom philosophy.
The current fee for the VCE Philosophy Support Package is $450 per person (GST free).
VCE Philosophy Support Program 2007
Units 1 to 4
The aim of the Program is to provide support for teachers who intend to offer any of the VCE Philosophy Units 1 to 4 in 2007. The package consists of the following elements.
Intensive 11th to 14th December 2007 (10.00am to 4.00pm daily).
The afternoon of Wednesday 12th will be focusing on new material. Teachers who have previously enrolled in the program might like to attend at a cost of $75.00 (GST free).
A phone-in or e-mail service for teachers who need advice-on-the-run when the teaching year has begun. This service will be available on a "reasonable use" basis throughout the teaching year 2008.
NB: The VCE Philosophy Support Program will be closely tied to the requirements of the VCE Study design.
There will be two parallel streams: one for year 11 (Units 1 and 2) and one for year 12 (Units 3 and 4).
Intensive Program
The days will be divided into a morning session (3.00 hours with a break for morning tea) and an afternoon session (2 hours). See link for program.
Morning tea will be provided, but participants are asked to make their own arrangements about lunch. The food outlets at La Trobe University will be open in December and a variety of meals from take away snacks to restaurants meals will be available.
