ResearchSchool of Molecular SciencesThe research conducted by most of our academic staff is supported by various grants from the Australian Research Council, National Health & Medical Research Council, National Institute of Health (USA) as well as through various funding agencies which include the National Geographic Society, IBM (USA), the Malarial Vaccine initiative (Gates Foundation, USA) the Co-operative Research Centres for Diagnostics and Vaccine Technology and various contracts with Industry. The School houses state-of-the-art instrumentation to meet all current research needs. Major research programs in Biochemistry cover areas of protein chemistry, molecular and cell biology, malaria research, cancer, immunology, plant defence and drug and vaccine development. In Chemistry, research is conducted in analytical chemistry, chemical structure & energetics, surface & materials chemistry, medicinal & biological chemistry as well as chemical mechanistics & environmental reactions. In Genetics, research is conducted in molecular genetics including gene therapy, population genetics and cell biology. Research in ecological and conservation genetics of marsupial and invertebrate populations, demographic genetics and medical anthropology also takes place. Content Approved by: Head of School
