Data Handling Policy

All Data is acquired and saved on the local acquisition computer at each instrument.

The data which have a value are copied to the ProteinScape computer (ie you may save 5 spectra of one sample but only need to keep one). For LC-MS runs for example exclude blank runs and failed analyses.

ProteinScape is used for further analysis, organisation of spectra and storage, The ProteinScape computer has a large storage capacity which will be backed up weekly.

Data on the instrument computer hard disks will be removed in order to keep them less than 50 % full. Oldest data to be deleted first.

Don't save anything on the C:\ drives, they are for the system only.

Data saving convention Spotting robot

Data is to be saved at D:\Year\YearMonth\samplename

For example: D:\2008\0805\MS001\spectra

If you want to add subdirectories feel free to do so. Use subdirectories wisely, ie one directory per experiment unit, as some analysis programs open one directory at a time.

The MS number will be entered into a hardcopy book located in the MSPF facility.

In the book enter date, project description in a word, MS number, and comments

This book is very handy to quickly find a spectrum and the book doubles as a log book.

If a project takes more than one month to complete, then make a new folder in the appropriate month with the same sample name, for example:

\2008\0805\MS001 and \2008\0806\MS001

Because we will back-up the monthly folder, it does not make sense to change an 'old' dataset.

The computers linked to the instruments are for running the instruments ONLY, not for personal or Internet use.
