Down Under program

Preparing bush tucker
The Down Under Program delivers a wide range of activities to broaden the knowledge of our internationals throughout the year.
Launched in 2003, this program has been exciting and varied, and the benefits of this broad introduction to Australian life have been widely appreciated.
Here's what some of our internationals have had to say about the Down Under program:
Down Under activities include:
-
Boomerang Throwing – learn to throw and make your own boomerang. Experience a boomerang demonstration by a world class champion. You will also witness a professional ‘night show throwing’ demonstration, equipped with lights and sparklers.
-
Didgeridoo Session – Learn to play music on this unique Australian musical instrument. Did you know that the didgeridoo is hollowed out by termites and that it is the only musical instrument that has been created by nature long before humanity existed on earth?
-
Bush Tucker Supper - Akudjura, muntries, riberries and Kakadu plum sound exotic, but they're dinky di Australian bush tucker. They have been part of the Australian Aboriginal diet for a long time. Come along and sample some yummy tucker, like crocodile burgers and kangaroo sausages.
-
Aussie Wine – Sample, vintage award-winning Australian wines. Chat with the winemaker and learn why our land produces the finest quality wines.
-
Australian Slithering Reptiles – A chance to get up close and personal with some reptiles. A fresh water crocodile is thrown in, just to make it a little more adventurous. Australia's got some of the most poisonous creatures in the world: here's an opportunity to meet them.
Welcome activities
The Down Under program hosts ‘welcome activities’ to assist our international students when they first arrive. Some of these activities include:
- an afternoon tea
- Aussie BBQ
- shopping trips
- popcorn movie night
- 'get-togethers’ at our college bar
- ‘Welcome’ show bags
There will be many opportunities to get to know the city and see what a beautiful and unique place Melbourne is.
