Theatre and Drama ProgramPostgraduate StudiesStaff have a broad range of research interests, this is reflected in the subjects currently offered to honours and MA (Prelim) students. All postgraduate programs are administered and supervised from the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus. Graduate Diploma of Humanities and Social SciencesThis Diploma is designed for graduates of any discipline who seek to develop their knowledge of subject areas which they did not cover in their first degree. Students can take undergraduate subjects from the Theatre and Drama Program or other programs within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Six undergraduate coursework subjects are studied full-time over one year to eighteen months, or part-time over two to three years. Masters of Arts (Research)Theatre and Drama Program staff represent a wide range of research interests and are available to discuss possible Masters Research topics. The normal prerequisite for admission to a Masters of Arts Research is a four-year Honours degree or equivalent, with at least a "B" average. Applicants without honours will normally be required to qualify for entry through an MA(Prelim) program or a Postgraduate Diploma in Theatre and Drama. Candidature for the Masters Degree is from one to two years full-time, or one to four years part-time. The thesis for a research Masters Degree must not normally exceed 40,000 words. Doctor of PhilosophyTheatre and Drama Program staff represent a wide range of research interests and are available to discuss possible PhD topics. The normal prerequisite for entry to a PhD is a B.A. (Hons) or M.A. Masters by research candidature may be transferred to PhD candidature if the work completed is judged to be of sufficient scope and merit. The thesis for a PhD must not exceed 100,000 words and is recommended normally not to exceed 75,000 words. For the PhD, candidature is 2.5 years minimum and four years maximum full-time, or three years minimum and eight years maximum part-time.
