Injured or displaced animals
The biodiversity of the Bundoora region is greatly benefited by the La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary and surrounding campus landscapes, as well as a number of Nature Conservation Reserves and arboreal corridors in the region.
The La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary specialises in the conservation and maintenance of indigenous flora and fauna, with a focus on natural ecological processes (i.e. those that would occur without human interference). These include the processes that govern birth-rates and death-rates of living organisms. We encourage La Trobe staff and students, as well as local residents, to learn about and understand these processes, rather than feeling the need to intervene.
Unfortunately, there are circumstances, particularly in built up areas, where injury or displacement of animals occurs and we would encourage you to contact, and support, the local volunteer organisations that are involved in wildlife rescue.
