Category 9: Disability or long-term medical condition

This category of disability or long-term medical condition is open to all applicants who have a long-term and severe disability or medical condition and have experienced disadvantage as a result.

Applicants to this category cannot apply for the same consideration as part of an application for Year 12 Special Consideration.

La Trobe University will consider applicants under this category, who:

  • are able to demonstrate that they have suffered educational disadvantage as a result of their disability or severe long-term illness;
  • are able to supply medical or other relevant professional evidence to support their claim.

How to apply:

Evidence - Statement of Support
Applicants who suffer a long-term or recurrent medical condition/illness, learning, physical, sensory, psychiatric or other disability must provide details of the condition and the period in which the condition was experienced. To do this, applicants must provide a confidential statement of support, on the personalised Statement of Support Form, from the relevant health care professional involved in the care and/or maintenance of the condition. Additionally, information about absences from school and how the condition adversely affected academic performance should be provided.

Impact Statement
As part of the SEAS application, applicants are required to submit a statement of up to 2,500 characters (not words) indicating how their medical condition/disability has adversely affected their education. Text exceeding this limit will not be included.

Applicants are advised to draft this statement prior to beginning their application.

Checklist
Make sure you have:

  • confirmed what evidence is required from the institution to which you have, or may apply to at Change of Preference;
  • supplied a statement of support from a relevant health care professional on the personalised Statement of Support Form;
  • checked out institutionally specific information as part of this category for courses currently on your preference list as well as those you may add at Change of Preference.
  • provided all evidence attached to your personalised SEAS Access and Equity cover sheet.
