Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) 2008

Category 6: Rural or isolated applicants

(for complete details and information on how to apply please see www.vtac.edu.au)

Rural or isolated consideration is for applicants who have suffered educational disadvantage as a result of either undertaking their secondary schooling in a rural or isolated area and/or having to move from such an area to undertake the tertiary course of their choice.

Applicants to this category cannot apply for the same consideration as part of an application for Year 12 Special Consideration.

La Trobe University will consider applicants under this category who:

  • can demonstrate how rural or isolated circumstances have adversely affected their preparation for tertiary study;
  • meet the Australian Standard Geographic Classification (ASGC) Remoteness Areas classification for school or home location;
  • have lived in a rural or isolated area for at least the past three years; or
  • have completed their last two years of secondary schooling in a rural or isolated area

How to Apply:

Evidence
All non-year 12 applicants must provide proof of residency for the past three years such as a utility bill (including name); rates notice or a statutory declaration made by someone who is not a relative to attest to the claim of residency.

Impact Statement
As part of the SEAS application, applicants are required to submit a statement of up to 1,500 characters (not words) indicating how your school or home location adversely affected your education. Text exceeding this limit will not be included.

Applicants are advised to draft this statement prior to beginning their application.

Please note:
Disadvantage as a result of rural or isolated location does not refer to issues of inability to attend events held in metropolitan locations associated with undertaking year 12. Instead this category refers to the overall impact of isolation from a range of experiences and resources because of your rural isolation.

Checklist
Make sure you have:

  • provided evidence attached to your personalised SEAS Access and Equity cover sheet;
  • confirmed what evidence is required from the institution to which you have, or may apply at Change of Preference;
