Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) 2008

Category 1 - Mature Age Entry

Mature age entry is for applicants who have accumulated relevant experience since leaving school. This category is for an applicant who can demonstrate relevant work and/or life experience and indicate how this is likely to assist them successfully complete the course(s) for which they have applied.

Applicants to this category cannot apply for the same consideration as part of an application for Year 12 Special Consideration.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply through the Mature Age Entry Scheme if you are aged 21 years or more on 1 January 2008, are a non-Year 12 applicant and:

  • have not completed a semester of tertiary level studies (including post-Year 12 TAFE qualifications) in the last two years;
  • have sat STAT Multiple Choice (all courses except Visual Arts, Graphic Design, Education and Outdoor Education, Outdoor Environmental Education, Outdoor Recreation Education, Natural Resources Education, Physical and Health Education, Physical and Outdoor Education and Nature Tourism); or
  • have sat STAT Written English (for Education and Outdoor Education, Outdoor Environmental Education, Outdoor Recreation Education, Natural Resources Education, Physical and Health Education, Physical and Outdoor Education and Nature Tourism only)

Please note: Applicants to Science, Technology and Engineering courses with a mathematics prerequisite must contact (03) 9479 2591 or sci.tech@latrobe.edu.au to ascertain if they are required to undertake a mathematics test. All applicants are requested to complete and return Science, Technology and Engineering Mature Age Entry Form indicating the course(s) they have applied for under SEAS Category 1 Mature Age Entry.

Applicants to Humanities and Social Sciences courses MUST complete a Supplementary Form. Applicants can either contact (03) 9479 2023 or email lhuss@latrobe.edu.au for additional information on the supplementary form and instructions for an autobiographical essay.

Applicants to all Health Sciences related courses including Social Work and Human Services should read the course entries in the VTAC Guide 2008 to ascertain if there are any additional requirements. Please contact (03) 9479 3573 if you require clarification.

Evidence

The data provided on your SEAS application will be verified against the data collected as part of your VTAC application.

Impact Statement

As part of their submission, applicants are required to submit two statements, each of up to 600 characters (not words):

  • describing any work or life experience that is relevant to the courses listed on the VTAC application; and
  • elaborating on why you believe that you will be successful in the course(s) for which you have or may apply to at Change of Preference.

Applicants are advised to draft this statement prior to beginning their application.

Checklist

Please make sure that you have:

  • prepared and included your impact statement, as part of your SEAS Access and Equity Mature Age Entry submission; and
  • registered for the STAT (if applicable). For more information refer to the VTAC Guide 2008.
