La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS)
We've just opened our $100M LIMS building, a centre that will continue to grow the University's world-class research in molecular science, biotechnology and nanotechnology.
Two great videos show you what a spectacular facility this is. One was filmed on the day of the official opening, 15 February. The other video is time-lapse taken over the two year construction period.

2012 Alumni Awards
The 2012 Alumni Awards were held in early September, with five distinguished Australians honoured on the night.
Australia’s former top bureaucrat, Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet from 2008 to 2011, Terry Moran AC, and respected author and speechwriter Don Watson have been awarded La Trobe University’s highest honour – the Distinguished Alumni Awards for 2012.
They are joined by the architect of Australian industry superannuation and pioneer of clean energy investment Garry Weaven and Melbourne conservationist and Director of PNG’s Tenkile Conservation Alliance, James Thomas.
Dr Hala Raghib, a medical researcher who has developed a prize-winning system for animal-free drug testing, has won the University’s coveted Young Achievers’ Award.

It's time to refresh our logo
The La Trobe University logo (or brandmark), with the eagle motif, was developed in the early nineties. While it has served the University well, it is time to refresh the design so that it better represents the contemporary and forward thinking approach the University is embarking on for the future.
We are currently considering some design concepts and how they work in different contexts and backgrounds. A new look brandmark will be launched along with our new Strategic Plan in October.

'La Trobey Road' - A great photo to remind us of a special day
This photograph was taken on April 19, 2012, the day of the inaugural graduation procession through the streets of Mildura.
The photo shows Executive Director of the Mildura Campus, Mr Neil Fettling as mace bearer, leading the Chancellor Adrienne E Clarke AC, La Trobe alumna Patricia Edgar and me crossing the road in the style of the Beatles' famous cover artwork for the album 'Abbey Road'. It was a memorable day that was topped off with Mildura campus' first ever Prize and Awards night, which saw 26 students receiving special awards.
