Visual Arts Centre

Residency Program

The Residency program aims to build a mutually beneficial relationship between national and international practicing artists and the School of Visual Arts and Design and central Victorian communities.

Residencies are attached to specific projects and have clearly defined outcomes such as conferences, workshops, exhibitions, open studio and collaborations. The participating artist/s will be expected to contribute to the Centre's activities and/or those of the School of Visual Arts & Design. It is anticipated that residency projects will enhance the breadth of teaching within the School and add vitality to the visual arts community of central Victoria.

The residence consists of a new one bedroom flat and adjoining studio. Also located within the Visual Arts Centre is a contemporary gallery space, a theatrette, a print workshop and three post graduate studios. Residency projects may seek to utilise these other facilities.

It is important to note that in general the residency program does not come with funding unless a specific project is selected and grant proposals are submitted in conjunction with the artist. Artists who secure confirmation of a residency are encouraged to pursue funding opportunities and the Centre will provide letters of support for this. Proposals are welcomed and are currently being taken for 2008 - 09 residency program. Initially applicants need to outline their idea/project and provide a resume and visual support material. Artists are invited to discuss their residency proposals with Managing Curator Paul Northam in advance of submission.
