La Trobe successful at past Australian University Championships - Orienteering

The Easter weekend's hot conditions and the tough terrain around Stanthorpe, Queensland, took its toll on the participants from across several Australian Universities competing in the Australian University Championship – Orienteering.  La Trobe University had success in the individual competition with Bryan Keely, the only La Trobe representative, claiming first-place honours in the men's division with a time of 1:40:24.

Studying at the Bendigo campus, Bryan has shown great strength and dedication to his orienteering and athletics career, having represented Australia in Junior and Open titles, competing in State and National league competitions and representing La Trobe on two occasions at the World University Orienteering Championships.  Bryan has also been a recipient of the La Trobe University Regional Sports Scholarship in 2010.

Another Bendigo campus student and the only female La Trobe representative in the women's individual competition, Laurina Neumann, took second place honours with a time of 1:33:44 against some of the strongest sporting Universities around Australia.  Laurina, a dedicated elite athlete, has represented Australia in Junior and Open titles, competing in State and National league competitions and representing La Trobe on two occasions at the World University Orienteering Championships.  Laurina has also been a recipient of the La Trobe University Regional Sports Scholarship in 2009/10.

The Australian University Championships – Orienteering form a key part of the selection process for athletes wanting to represent Australia at the World University Championships and both Bryan and Laurina have been selected to represent La Trobe University. The Championships will be held in Alicante, Spain, from the 2-6 July, 2012.
An outstanding performance by these two La Trobe students. We wish them all the best and success for Spain!
